    Our travels in Turkey will begin in Istanbul, a dynamic city where Europe and Asia meet, offering a rich blend of history, culture, and modern energy. On a guided walking tour, we'll explore iconic sights like the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, the majestic Blue Mosque, the bustling Grand Bazaar and have free time to soak up the city's unique atmosphere. Next on our journey is a short ferry ride to Büyükada, the largest of the Princes’ Islands, where we’ll enjoy a scenic hike and explore its peaceful surroundings. Then a short internal flight will take us to Cappadocia, a region renowned for its otherworldly landscapes, ancient cave dwellings, and unique rock formations. Here, we'll explore the fascinating Göreme Open-Air Museum, hike through the stunning Meskendir and Red Valley, wander through Zemi Valley, take in the breathtaking scenery of Pigeon Valley, and trek to Uçhisar, home to a striking hilltop fortress offering panoramic views over the region. This Turkey walking holiday is perfect for those looking to explore its breathtaking vistas, rich heritage, and captivating natural wonders on foot.

    This trip will include some moderate routes and is ideal for moderately experienced or experienced walkers. The average daily walking distance on moderate walks is between 10km – 12km.

    Welcome to Istanbul, a city where East meets West, history blends seamlessly with modernity, and the call to prayer echoes across the skyline of minarets. Upon arrival, we’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to our boutique hotel in the heart of the city. After settling in, enjoy free time to explore at your leisure. Stroll through the atmospheric streets, indulge in delicious Turkish cuisine, or relax and take in the vibrant ambience of this timeless metropolis.

    The Wonders of Istanbul – A Walking Tour Through Time

    Today, let's immerse ourselves in the rich history and culture of Istanbul on a guided walking tour of its most iconic landmarks. 

    We begin our journey at the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture that has stood for over 1,500 years. Let's marvel at its grand dome and intricate mosaics before heading to the Egyptian Obelisks at the Hippodrome, where chariot races once captivated emperors and citizens alike.
    Next, we visit the Blue Mosque, adorned with stunning blue Iznik tiles and towering minarets. Let's step into the serene ambience of this Ottoman marvel before continuing to the Byzantine Hippodrome, once the social and sporting centre of ancient Constantinople.
    To complete the experience, let's enjoy a traditional Turkish tea or coffee at a historic café, soaking in the lively atmosphere. The tour concludes at the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets. We wander through its labyrinth of alleys filled with colourful textiles, dazzling jewellery, and exotic spices.

    Hiking on the Princess Islands – Büyükada’s Hidden Trails

    Today, let's escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a day of hiking on Büyükada, the largest of the serene Princess Islands. A short ferry ride brings us to this charming island where motor vehicles are banned, allowing for a peaceful and scenic adventure.
    Our hike begins at the pier, winding through picturesque streets lined with Ottoman-era mansions and lush gardens. As we venture deeper, we pass historical landmarks and climb gentle trails leading to breathtaking viewpoints. Take in the stunning panoramic views of the Sea of Marmara, framed by lush pine forests and vibrant wildflowers. Along the way, we’ll pause for photographs and moments of tranquillity, experiencing the island's natural beauty at its finest.
    After a fulfilling day of exploration, we return to Istanbul in the late afternoon.

    Flight to Cappadocia

    Flying to Cappadocia – A Land of Fairy Chimneys

    After breakfast, we are transferred to the airport for a short flight to Cappadocia, a surreal landscape of towering rock formations, ancient cave dwellings, and underground cities. Upon arrival in either Nevsehir or Kayseri, we transfer to our boutique cave hotel, a unique and cosy retreat carved into the soft volcanic rock.

    The remainder of the day is at leisure. Take time to relax, soak in the breathtaking views, or explore the charming town at your own pace. As evening falls, enjoy a delicious traditional dinner, perhaps including local specialities like testi kebab (slow-cooked meat in a clay pot). Overnight in Cappadocia.

    Exploring the UNESCO Wonders of Cappadocia

    Time: Full dayFull day

    Today, we dive into the extraordinary history and landscapes of Cappadocia. Our first stop is the Goreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO-listed site featuring ancient rock-hewn churches adorned with Byzantine frescoes. These well-preserved paintings provide a glimpse into early Christian life in the region.
    From here, we begin our hike through the Meskendir and Red Valley, two of Cappadocia’s most stunning and lesser-traveled trails. Walking among deep red-hued rock formations, past hidden cave dwellings and medieval churches, we soak in the region’s ancient mystique. The landscape is an ever-changing masterpiece of colours and textures, shaped by centuries of wind and water.
    After our exhilarating hike, we return to our accommodation, where you can unwind and reflect on the day’s journey.

    Zemi Valley to Uchisar

    Hiking Through the Valleys – Zemi Valley to Uchisar

    Today’s adventure takes us through the lush Zemi Valley, a striking contrast of greenery against Cappadocia’s otherworldly rock formations. Towering volcanic spires, hidden caves, and tall poplar trees line our path as we navigate this enchanting route.
    Our journey leads us to El Nazar Church, a beautifully preserved rock-hewn sanctuary adorned with vivid frescoes depicting biblical scenes. Continuing onwards, we arrive at the Pigeon Valley, named for the thousands of ancient pigeon houses carved into the cliffs. These birds played a crucial role in Cappadocia’s agricultural traditions, carrying messages and fertilizing the fertile lands.
    The hike culminates at Uchisar, home to the region’s highest vantage point, the Uchisar Fortress. This towering rock citadel, riddled with tunnels and chambers, offers breathtaking panoramic views across the valleys below — a perfect finale to our Cappadocian adventure.

    After an unforgettable journey through the wonders of Istanbul and Cappadocia, it’s time to bid farewell to Turkey. we transfer to Nevsehir or Kayseri airport for our flight home, carrying memories of historic marvels, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmth of Turkish hospitality.
